<image:title>Blog - Jennifer Shadel, Student Intern - Life can feel messy and complicated, especially when you’re navigating identity, family expectations, or the weight of trauma. I believe therapy is a place to feel seen and heard, to bring your full self without judgment, and to know you don’t have to walk this journey alone. I use humor, warmth, and curiosity to create a space where hard work can also include moments of lightness and connection.</image:title>
<image:caption>I especially enjoy working with teenagers and young adults. My background includes trauma-informed approaches such as Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Trust-Based Relational Intervention® (TBRI), and FASD-informed caregiving. I have years of lived experience supporting families through adoption trauma, disability discrimination, racism, and recovery from religious trauma. These experiences shape how I show up—with empathy, advocacy, and practical tools to help clients and families build resilience.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Blog - Why We Launched Utah’s First Affirming IOP for LGBTQIA+ Adults</image:title>
<image:caption>Why It Matters Despite being more likely to seek out mental health support, LGBTQIA+ individuals are twice as likely to receive poor quality care than their heterosexual peers. Only 12% of outpatient mental health programs in the U.S. offer LGBTQIA-specific programming. And for transgender individuals, 23% avoid care altogether due to fear of mistreatment. That’s why Flourish Therapy exists — and why this IOP is an expansion of our mission.</image:caption>

Each experience is more unique than the last. I first started working at Utah Youth Village with Juvenile Delinquents who were involved in the court system with their parents. This was the start of my mental health field journey. With the teenagers, as the clients and their parents, I was able to teach both parties new skills to help their relationships. The teenagers entered the program involuntarily, so I enjoyed helping them, seeing them improve over the course of the intervention, and eventually watching them leave the court system.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Sami Simpson, PhD, LMFT - Sami Simpson believes that healing is our birthright; and that while it is usually not our fault we have been wounded, it is our responsibility to take ownership of our healing. Sami utilizes a holistic, somatic approach to therapy, informed by 12 years as a massage therapist and 6 years of graduate school training to be a marriage and family therapist. Both western research and eastern medicinal philosophies indicate that trauma is a visceral experience, and can be stored in the body. Although not all of us have experienced obvious traumatic events, most of us have experienced a pile-up of many smaller traumas that impact our ability to feel safe and secure in the world, in our relationships, and even within ourselves.</image:title>
