Karen Russell Mortensen, MAED, MS, LMFT

Karen Russell is currently enrolled in the Marriage and Family Therapy program at Capella University. She is a clinical intern in Marriage and Family Therapy. She has a Master’s in Education in School Counseling and has been a school counselor for almost 20 years. She has worked with parents and students affected by trauma, school refusal, and LGBT issues, along with many other issues. She is serving on the Executive Board of TEA of Utah, and she co-facilitates the Trans Adult Friendship Circle at Encircle House. She is a proud member of Mama Dragons and has personal experience working through the process of parenting a gay child. Karen works with families using narrative, solution-focused therapy techniques, and dialectic behavior techniques. Areas of interest include adolescents, adults, couples and families, trauma and PTSD, LGBTQ+ issues, domestic violence, and women’s issues.
