Sydney Bean, AMFT

Sydney (Syd), She/Her

While Sydney recently finished her Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy at Utah Valley University, she has worked in and been a part of many different mental health services for the last 10 years. Sydney has worked in the administrative side of therapy in both outpatient services as well as inpatient, though she felt a strong desire to play a larger part in the healing process. She gained insight into how impactful mental health can be on an individual, as well as on their partner, family, or support network.

Sydney has been involved in advocacy for LGBTQIA+ rights and awareness for many years, and has since fueled her passion by directly working with and counseling individuals of the community. Spending most of her life in Utah, Sydney has been exposed to the harms of the dominant culture within the LDS "bubble" and seen how it can greatly affect individuals and families as they come to accept and explore sexual or gender identity.

Sydney has a great passion for helping individuals, couples, and families who are a part of the LGBTQIA+ community or have a loved one they want to provide greater support for. Sydney's biggest goal for clients is to create more fulfilling relationships, as well as find contentment and happiness in their daily lives. She has a great desire to work with emotional engagement, depression, anxiety, relational counseling, faith transitions, infidelity, sexual shame, and human sexuality. Sydney's biggest priority is creating a safe and inclusive space for all, encouraging vulnerability, empathy, understanding, patience, as well as humor.

Sydney believes in creating time for herself and selfcare by running, watching movies, going to concerts, cross stitching, and petting any dogs she comes across. She knows the decision to pursue therapy is not an easy one, but she is so happy you're taking the steps to invest in yourself and working to create the life you strive for.
