Marisa Alder, LCSW
Marisa is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) who received her Masters degree from The University of Utah. She specializes in working with LGBTQIA+ individuals, faith transitions, anxiety, depression, autism, ADHD, PTSD, OCD and youth, young adults and adults. She also has a lot of experience working with people with disabilities. For her, connection, authenticity, open-mindedness and mutual respect are core values.
Marisa appreciates being able to be flexible with the approaches she takes in therapy to strive to be open and considerate of you, to make appropriate adjustments depending on what you need each session. She is passionate about making therapy feel human through tailoring her approach to meet each person she works with where they are at. Marisa believes that understanding ourselves, how we are affected by our relationships with others/the world, our feelings, and our needs is a necessary part of liberating ourselves from shame. Her top priority will be ensuring that you feel listened to, understood and supported within your individual needs. The uniqueness of each person she works with is something she finds special and important within the therapeutic relationship. She also will focus on helping you to rewire neuro pathways and will integrate science and evidence based practices in her approach. She uses frameworks from CBT, ACT, ERP and DBT. Marisa is also trained in EMDR. Whatever approaches she will use in therapy will be tailored to your individual needs.
Marisa identifies on the asexual spectrum and is a cisgender woman with she/her pronouns. Marisa became a social worker because she is passionate about social justice and mental health, but that's just the tip of the iceberg of what she is interested in. Some key words include: animals (especially cats!), thrifting, camping, self-expression, video games, creativity, anything neon/colorful and science/history.
