Steven Decker, Student Intern

Hello! My name is Steven (He/Him) and I am a Clinical Mental Health Counseling intern currently pursuing my master’s degree at Utah Valley University. I have a background in psychology and several years of experience in the business and tech field, which has shaped my perspective on both the practical and personal challenges people navigate in their lives.

I am particularly interested in working with individuals in the LGBTQ+ community, especially those exploring identity, navigating anxiety, or working through life transitions. Growing up in Utah within a religious context and coming to terms with my own identity, I understand many of the complexities that can come with identity development, faith transitions, and the process of redefining personal values and beliefs.

My approach to therapy is grounded in person-centered and cognitive behavioral principles. I focus on helping individuals build awareness of their internal experiences, develop more flexibility in how they respond to difficult thoughts and emotions, and move toward a life that feels meaningful and aligned with their values.

I strive to create a space that is affirming, collaborative, and nonjudgmental. I believe therapy should be a place where people can show up authentically, feel understood, and explore their experiences at their own pace.
