Bree Parish, Student Intern

Hi! My name is Bree Parish (Fae/She). I am a Clinical Mental Health student intern who started at Flourish Therapy at the beginning of summer 2026. I'm currently at Utah Valley University in a CACREP-accredited Master's program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, my goal is to offer support, treatment, and a deeper level of care to members of my community who struggle in a society that ostracizes them.

As a counselor-in-training, I work from a person-centered, collaborative, and trauma-informed approach. I am adaptable to each client, and if an approach isn't working for you, we can discuss the best way to support your treatment. I encourage open communication and often ask for feedback on how you're feeling about the therapeutic approach and about me as your therapist. Creating a space for my clients to explore their identities and feel safe, heard, validated, and valued is central to my therapeutic work.

I earned my Associate of Science in Humanities and Social Science from Salt Lake Community College and my Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Utah Valley University. My education specifically focused on multiculturalism, emotional experiences, trauma, culture, human development, and identity. The research I've published specifically focuses on cultural humility in the therapeutic relationship and on maintaining it over time with clients.

My experiences as a therapist encompass treating ADHD, Autism, OCD, trauma, personality disorders, grief, depression/suicidal thoughts, and anxiety disorders. I approach mental health disorders as simply experiencing the world differently, and we'll explore societal factors that cause the majority of a client's distress in therapy. My previous experience in the field of psychology includes working as a case manager in a residential substance abuse program that focused on treating trauma and substance use recovery with clients. Furthermore, my co-facilitation in grief support groups encompassed helping clients with grief, faith transitions, trauma, and identity crises. My areas of study have included training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). However, I draw on multiple therapeutic orientations and interventions that suit my client on their healing journey.
