Carly Nelson, Student Intern
Hi there and welcome. My name is Carly (or Car), and my pronouns are she/they. I’m a Master of Social Work (MSW) intern at Flourish Therapy and am currently completing my graduate training through Arizona State University’s online MSW program.
Before entering the mental health field, I played professional soccer and spent many years in high-performance environments. That experience, along with my own mental health journey, shaped my approach to therapy and my commitment to creating spaces where people feel genuinely safe, supported, and understood. I was one of the first professional athletes to publicly take a mental health leave, and advocacy around mental health and accountability continues to inform how I show up in therapeutic spaces.
My clinical interests include working with youth and adults experiencing trauma, anxiety, and depression, as well as supporting LGBTQ+ individuals, including transgender and gender nonbinary clients and those exploring asexuality and identity. I am especially drawn to body-based and trauma-informed approaches such as EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and somatic therapy. I approach therapy with warmth, collaboration, and deep respect for each client’s lived experience, with the goal of helping people feel secure enough in who they are to allow healing.
