Jennifer Shadel, Student Intern
Life can feel messy and complicated, especially when you’re navigating identity, family expectations, or the weight of trauma. I believe therapy is a place to feel seen and heard, to bring your full self without judgment, and to know you don’t have to walk this journey alone. I use humor, warmth, and curiosity to create a space where hard work can also include moments of lightness and connection.
I especially enjoy working with teenagers and young adults. My background includes trauma-informed approaches such as Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Trust-Based Relational Intervention® (TBRI), and FASD-informed caregiving. I have years of lived experience supporting families through adoption trauma, disability discrimination, racism, and recovery from religious trauma. These experiences shape how I show up—with empathy, advocacy, and practical tools to help clients and families build resilience.
I am currently completing my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Northwestern University. I am a member of the ACA, AMHCA, NADD, and the LGBTQ Therapists Guild. Outside of counseling, I recharge through music, animals, and anything connected to the stage. These passions remind me that creativity and joy can live alongside healing and growth.
