Sage Yanchar, Student Intern

Hello! My name is Sage Yanchar (they/them) and I am an intern therapist and Master of Social Work student at the University of Utah. I have a Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Utah Valley University. I have four years of experience working in adolescent PHP treatment, where I ran therapy psychoeducation groups, managed crises, and helped clients advocate for their queer identities in the group and in their lives.

As a queer person in Utah Valley, I am well aware of the challenges many within our community face, motivating me to work with those in the LGBTQ+ community and advocate for important legislative and social changes. While circumstances for the queer community in the current climate can feel challenging, I believe that community and queer joy can be reached if we have the courage and perseverance to create it.

My philosophy of therapy draws on client-centered humanism and the fundamental belief that people can access growth and change when given the right circumstances. I use a compassion-based and person-first approach which draws on several therapy models depending on what is needed for the individual. As not only your therapist, but also your social worker, we will find the right environments and strategies for you to flourish. By creating a safe, therapeutic environment, we will work together to create the life you envision living.

In my free time, I watch the Premier League, play Dungeons and Dragons, and stay engaged in nature by hiking, camping, and visiting national parks. I also love to learn about psychology, sociology, literature, and history.
