Katie Salmond, Student Intern

My name is Katie Salmond (she/her) and I am a Master of Social Work intern with Utah State University, with a person-centered and humanistic approach to therapy. I believe that every person has inherent worth and deserves respect and dignity. I strongly believe that people's behaviors make sense when viewed within the context of their lived experiences.

My goal is to be a safe, nonjudgmental space for my clients, where they can feel heard, respected and supported. I feel that everyone has the ability to grow and develop meaningful ways to navigate life events and experiences.

Outside of my professional life, I am a naturally curious person and am always learning. I know a little bit about a lot. I like flowers, cats and all things Disney. Humor is an important part of my life, and I work hard to find and make experiences and relationships that bring joy and laughter.

Education

I earned a Bachelor of Science in Community Health from Utah Valley University and am currently pursuing a Master of Social Work at Utah State University, with an anticipated graduation date of May 2027.

After graduation, I plan to pursue certification through the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT).

Professional Qualifications

As an advanced standing Master of Social Work student, I completed my first practicum in hospice care. This experience deepened my understanding of grief and loss, taught me how important presence is for my clients and their families, and how vital autonomy is to my clients.
