Rune Rainwater, Student Intern

My name is Rune Rainwater (they/he), and I am a queer, nonbinary, and transmasc

Clinical Mental Health Counseling Intern pursuing my Master’s in Counseling from NYU.

I am passionate about creating safe and supportive environments for other

LGBTQIA2S+ individuals, fat folks, and people who have experienced family, religious,

and spiritual trauma. I’ve trained in and experienced a wide variety of counseling

modalities with a focus on social justice, cultural humility, and trauma.

I combine a strengths-based approach with several modalities, including narrative therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), harm reduction, and person-centered therapy. My work is grounded in consent-based practices; cultural humility; and respecting body autonomy. My interest and growing competence with complex post-traumatic stress disorder (C-PTSD), sizeism, depression, anxiety, neurodivergence, gender identity changes, and spiritual abuse inform my consent-centered and empowering approach. I’m interested in working with individuals, adults, and groups.

I live in rural New Mexico and love spending time with my foster-fail dogs and cats, and hanging out with my nine chickens named after infamous femme serial killers while listening to the Maintenance Phase podcast or Daniella Mestyanek Young’s The Culting of America.

Education

Prior to counseling, I worked for over two decades in a variety of positions with a B.S. in Organic and Sustainable Agriculture from the University of Minnesota. My experiences in a wide range of settings help me connect with clients.

Professional Qualifications

My areas of study have included Complex PTSD and trauma, narrative therapy, somatic-based therapies, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), group therapy, harm reduction, and other evidence-based approaches.
